Featured Program: Volunteers of America of Utah's Center for Women and Children

Mother and CounselorIn Salt Lake City, Volunteers of America’s Center for Women and Children accepts women and children during the detoxification stage of recovery. "Many women are able to stay on the track to recovery because they want to do right by their children. They want to be good parents," Volunteers of America of Utah President/CEO Kathy Bray says. "But if they don’t know what to do with their children at the beginning, they may not get help and thus their addiction progresses and gets worse. The center’s treatment philosophy recognizes that addiction creates deep wounds in children, as well as in parents." The kids who come here have been through enough fear and chaos. They’ve had to cope with their parents’ volatile mood swings and inconsistent discipline. We want them to know that there are safe places and safe people for them," says clinical psychologist Mark Manazer, vice president for programs for Volunteers of America of Utah.
